Would you like to help PRESERVE LOUISVILLE’S PAST?

PRESERVATION LOUISVILLE INC is currently looking for interns & volunteers
in a wide variety of disciplines!

As Metro Louisville’s citywide non-profit historic preservation organization, Preservation Louisville works in partnership with local, state and national organizations to promote the preservation of our community’s historic resources through education and advocacy. Preservation Louisville also provides education, technical information and resources. The group is based at The Brennan House Historic Home.

Grant Writing Internship

Preservation Louisville’s Grant Writing Assistantship is an excellent opportunity for a college student who would like to gain ‘real-world’ experience working in the non-profit business sector. The Grant Writing Intern would work closely with the Executive Director of Preservation Louisville through the entire grant writing process: from the identification of potential grant opportunities to the obtainment of grant funding.

Summary of Responsibilities:

* Researches grants applicable to the goals and capabilities of Preservation Louisville, Inc.
* Manages the entire grant writing process.
* Performs clerical functions necessary to the grant writing process, including, but not limited to: managing spreadsheets, calling potential partners, compiling/analyzing research and data, and attending planning meetings.

Desired Skills:

* Excellent writing skills are a must
* Knowledge of Historic Preservation and corresponding current issues
* Strong communication skills
* Detail-oriented

The Brennan House Archival Assistant

Preservations Louisville’s Archival Assistant internship position offers students experience in the preservation of historic artifacts and the maintenance of a historic home. The student will work with The Brennan House Collections Manager research, clean, label, and catalog artifacts, as well as help photograph and build a digital catalog of the original Brennan family collection.

Summary of Responsibilities:

* Catalogue and assess archival historic artifacts in the Brennan House collection.
* Assist with other historic home upkeep as necessary.
* Assist with preservation and cleaning of artifacts.

Desired Skills:

* Knowledge of current Archival Standards and procedures
* Experience with computer programs including: Outlook, Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, Past Perfect
* Interest in Historic Preservation

Preservation Louisville, Inc. Marketing and Public Relations Assistant

The Marketing and Public Relations Assistant works with Preservation Louisville Executive Director to market the Preservation Louisville sponsored events with the intention of reaching potential Preservation Louisville members and donors. This internship is a great opportunity for undergraduates to practice marketing and communication skills in a ‘real-world’ non-profit environment.

Summary of Responsibilities:

* Upkeep of the Preservation Louisville newsletter and other advertising materials for Preservation Louisville/Brennan House events
* Develop marketing plans and initiatives to appeal to a wide variety of potential members/donors
* Attend planning meetings and assist in the event planning process
* Identify and document prospective contacts, members, and donors
* Keep up media contact and social marketing activities, while also finding other possible marketing opportunities

Desired Skills:

* Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
* Interest in Historic Preservation

Graphic Design Assistant

The Graphic Design Assistant works with the Executive Director of Preservation Louisville and gains ‘real-world’ advertising, marketing, and graphic design experience. This internship is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate students to gain experience working in the non-profit business sector.

Summary of Responsibilities:

* Creation and upkeep of the Preservation Louisville webpage.
* Manages the creation of logos and branding
* Assists the Preservation Louisville director in other marketing functions, including possible photography and event promotion.
* Assist the Preservation Louisville director with the creation of event logos, webpage design, photography, and other marketing activities.

Desired Skills:

* Graphic Design experience
* Knowledge of webpage creation and design

Development/Strategic Finance Assistantship

Preservation Louisville is currently looking for an undergraduate or graduate student to gain experience working in a nonprofit business. The Development / Strategic Finance Assistant would assist the Executive Director in fund-raising activities, oversee the Preservation Louisville membership database, and help develop growth initiatives for the member base.

Summary of Responsibilities:

* Assist the Preservation Louisville Executive Director with membership management
* Assist in the planning, coordinating, and implementing of fund raising activities

Desired Skills:

* Interest in Historic Preservation
* Background in finance or business

Historic Preservation Education Intern

Preservation Louisville is interested in hiring an intern to work directly with the newly developed Preservation Education! curriculum in local schools and other Preservation Louisville educational programs.

Summary of Responsibilities:

* Assist the Preservation Louisville Executive Director and other volunteers in the promotion of the school curriculum Preservation Education! and other Preservation Louisville educational programs
* Administer the curriculum in local schools and help coordinate other educational programs
* Attend Preservation Louisville Events & Education meetings and help promote the Preservation Louisville educational programs.

Desired Skills:

* Interest in Historic Preservation
* Interest in working with elementary and high school students
